Abstract

Aim: To study the incidence and risk factors for retinopathy of prematurity in peripheral district of Odisha.
Methods Retinopathy of prematurity is a retinal disorder of low birth weight premature babies which can lead to complete blindness if not screened and treated in time. To initiate the screening camp first we arranged awareness programmes for medical officers, ANM workers, SNCU staff, RBSK managers and their block team members. ROP screening camps were conducted in DHH in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Sundargarh districts of Odisha.Total 151 babies were screened and classified according to ICROP classification. Out of 151 babies, ROP was diagnosed in 16.55% babies and out of those, 6 babies were referred to higher centre for the treatment. Other than LBW (<2 kgs) and low gestational age (<34 wks. GA) babies whose gestational age is btn 34to 36 weeks with risk factors like O2 supplementation , RDS , poor post natal wt gain etc were also included in this study.
