Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare the accommodative amplitude in prepresbyopic diabetic patients with healthy individuals of same age group. Individuals with diabetes have accelerated age-related biometric ocular changes compared to individuals without diabetes. This is a case control hospital based study which includes 35 diabetic (Case) and 35 non diabetic patients(control) of similar age group. The accommodative amplitude was measured by minus lens method. The mean amplitude of accommodation is seen to be lower in diabetic patients when compared with the normal population and the incidence of accommodation insufficiency was also found to be higher in diabetic patients and both were found to be statistically significant. Thus, according to the findings from our study,we conclude that there is significant association of diabetes on accommodative amplitude i.e, there is a decrease in accommodative amplitude in diabetic patients when compared with normal patients.
