Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: A prospective interventional study.
PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of overnight orthokeratology contact lens (OK) wear in patients with moderate myopia with or without astigmatism.
METHODS: Study included 50 eyes with myopia of up to -5.0 D with or without astigmatism (till-1.50.0 D). Participants were advised the best fit OK, which were worn for 3 months for minimum 6 hrs (average), on an overnight basis. Patients were followed up at 01 day, 10 days, 1 and 3 Months with outcome measures in term of refractive error, corneal thickness and axial length.
RESULTS: Post-OK by 12 weeks 80% eyes had unaided 6/6 vision (mean Log MAR 0.025, SD 0.0630). The mean baseline central corneal thickness (mm) was 512.50 ±19.85 which reduced to 499.96 ±17.89 at 24 weeks. Nil significant changes were noted in axial length.
Conclusion:The OK lenses is effective and safe in correcting myopia up to −5.0 diopters, providing sustained spectacle free unaided vision of 6/6.
