Abstract
Study Design: prospective comparative interventional study.
Purpose: To compare topical cyclosporin 0.1% eye drop with prednisolone acetate 1% eye drop for the management of stromal keratitis.
Methods: 30 patients were randomly allocated in 2 groups, 15 in each. Cyclosporine 0.1% was given to 1st group and prednisolone acetate 1% to the 2nd. Slit-lamp examination, serial ASOCT, visual acuity and IOP were assessed at Day 0, week 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12.
Results: Within-group analysis revealed significant improvement of total corneal area involved, density, maximum corneal thickness, LogMAR of BCVA after 3 months of treatment but comparison between the groups did not show any significant difference.
Conclusion: Our study concluded that both topical cyclosporine 0.1% and topical prednisolone acetate 1% can be used for treating stromal keratitis. Cyclosporine 0.1% being better, pertaining to the side effects and more chances of recurrence with prednisolone acetate 1%.
