Abstract
Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) involves microvascular changes in the eye due to diabetes. DME leads to vision loss as DR progresses from mild NPDR to severe PDR, impacted by VEGF. This study examines VEGF in aqueous humor in diabetics without DR & DR.
Study design: This hospital-based cross sectional study at AIMSR, Bathinda, investigates VEGF levels in diabetic patients' aqueous humor during intraocular surgery.
Purpose:Assess VEGF in diabetics with vs. without retinopathy to understand its role in the disease progression
Methods:180 eyes in each group (diabetes with/without retinopathy) will be studied. Aqueous samples collected pre-surgery will be analyzed using Invitrogen's VEGF Immunoassay kit. Data recorded on a proforma, adhering to ethical guidelines.
Result: The ELISA results revealed higher levels of VEGF in the aqueous humor of individuals with diabetes and DR compared to those with diabetes alone, indicating a potential association with the presence of retinopaty.
