Abstract
study design- prospective cross sectional study
Purpose- To evaluate the association of micro albuminuria & anemia with occurrence and severity of DR
Methods- 100 diagnosed cases of DM subjected to fundus examination &classified according to ETDRS classification. hb estimation (mg/dl) & urine microalbumin estimation (mg/24hr) done. Analysis was done using ANOVA.
Results- In this study average hb % in non diabetic and diabetic group were12.88±0.79 & 8.93±1.53 gm/dl respectively and difference was statistically Significant (p value <0.005). In the study average urine microalbumin in the non diabetic and diabetic group were19.91±7.58 and 162.70±97.0 mg /24hr respectively and difference was significant (p value <0.0001)
Conclusion-There is significant association of low blood oxygen-transport capacity, measured by hb concentration, and an
increased severity of DR. also emphasizes that microalbuminuria estimated by semi quantitative method is a cost effective and reliable marker of DR.
