Abstract
Study design- This is a randomized controlled trial conducted on 100 patients with NLDB,randomly & equally divided in 2groups.Group A underwent DCR with Intubation & Group B with MMC
Purpose-To compare the surgical outcome of DCR with MMC against DCR with Intubation in NLDB
Methods-detailed history, ocular and nasal examination,ROPLAS test, syringing,Schirmer test preoperatively were done.6months postoperatively patients were followed up for assessment of regurgitation and patency of lacrimal drainage apparatus.
Results-Out of 50 patients included in group A, 48(96%) patients showed patency & 2(04%) showed failure on syringing at the end of 6 months.Out of 50 patients in groupB, 41(82%)patients showed patency & 9(18%) showed failed syringing.Overall success rate was 89%
Conclusions-Silicon tube & MMC,have both showed effective results in DCR surgery, however MMC is more cost and time effective with easier learning curve. Also complications with MMC is lesser both intra and post-operatively
