Abstract
Study design – prospective study
Purpose- The purpose of this study is to employ a comprehensive approach to dacryocystitis by integrating insights from culture, sensitivity, and histopathology analyses in patients undergoing dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR)
Methods- In patient undergoing dcr with nasolacrimal duct block, pus sample and lacrimal sac biopsy was taken intraoperatively
Results- among all the sample 80 percent were positive for culture showing 10 different organisms with increase in resistance to ciprofloxacin which is a contrasting to finding shown in previous study. Citrobacter koseri and Citrobacter freundii were some rare organisms found in the study.
Histopathology of lacrimal sac has shown chronic inflammation in 95 percent of the individual with 5 percent showing acute on chronic inflammation
Conclusion – there is increase in number of bacteria that are resistant to ciprofloxacin which is contrasting to the results shown by previous studies
