Abstract
The celebration of Diwali, marked by the bursting of firecrackers, presents a hidden health hazard with the potential for serious consequences. One such complication is Berlin Edema, a rare but significant ocular injury resulting from the explosive force of firecrackers. In this case series, patients who presented to the emergency department for three consecutive days – the day of Diwali, one day before, and one day after Diwali – underwent comprehensive ophthalmological evaluations. Visual acuity (VA) was assessed using either the Snellen chart or finger counting. Additionally, all patients underwent complete slit lamp biomicroscopic examinations and fundus examinations at the time of presentation and during follow-up visits. Patients diagnosed with Berlin edema were closely monitored, and their visual outcomes were evaluated. Furthermore, the type and mode of firecrackers were taken into consideration, along with the specific types of injuries they caused.
