Abstract
This is a cross-sectional study conducted between April to June 2023 among patients admitted in the ophthalmology ward in a tertiary care centre for cataract surgery. A complete systemic and ocular examination was done. The visual acuity was recorded, and the grading of cataract was done by slit lamp examination. A total of 40 patients were taken in this study, out of which 18 were found to be diabetic and 22 were non-diabetic. Among the total number of patients, 10 were males and 30 were females. Most of the patients who developed cataract were in the age group of 40-60 years. Among the diabetics 40 % of patients were on oral hypoglycaemic drugs, 40 % were on insulin therapy and 20 % were not taking any diabetes treatment. 15 % developed cataract within 1-3 years of onset of diabetes, 60% developed cataract within 4-6 years and 25% developed cataract within 7-9 years of onset of diabetes.
