Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective observational study.
PURPOSE: A study of three cases of OE, describing its indications, clinical presentation, investigations, histopathological (HP) study, post-op outcomes.
METHOD: 3 eyes of 3 patients were evaluated between Aug 2021 to Apr 2024. Detailed symptoms of growth, pain, swelling, vision were evaluated; routine hemogram, orbital imaging done. OE done, excised mass sent for HP study; followed up for 6 months for post-op complications (bleeding, orbito-nasal fistulae).
RESULT: Case 1: Hemangiopericytoma, blood transfused due to low hemoglobin; recurred inspite of post-op radiotherapy, chemotherapy; liver mets found. Case 2: OSSN; HP study-invasive squamous cell carcinoma, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, no recurrence. Case 3: post-COVID Mucormycosis, DNE showed fungal invasion; HP study revealed mucormycosis. CONCLUSION: Though a cosmetic abuse; OE eliminates the disease from its core, getting rid of the issue lock, stock & barrel.
