Abstract
Study design: Observational & Interventional study
Purpose: To study patients with neurofibromatosis Type 1 with ocular involvement of lid & adnexa
Outcome of surgical management for excision of lid mass causing mechanical ptosis
Methods: Seven patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 were studied for manifestations in the eye and orbit causing visual impairment due to ptosis and or amblyopia. In this study 1 patient underwent surgical correction with excision of mass and sling procedure with ethibond-5 sutures(Fox Pentagon)
Results: 3 families had involvement with multiple café-au lait spots, Lisch nodules over iris and nodular lesions of autosomal dominant distribution. 1 patient had poor lid elevation due to the lid mass. Excision of mass was done to elevate the lid height which was effective in achieving significant improvement in eyelid height & function in severe mechanical ptosis
Conclusion: Long term evaluation of patients with significant lid or orbital masses need to be done.
