Abstract
A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 females aged 35-70 years to find out the correlation of DED with sleep disorder in menopausal females.Demographic profile, menstruation history, extraocular, ocular symptoms and electronic device usage were noted. Dry eye was analyzed by TBUT, Schirmer’s, tear meniscus height and corneal staining and OSDI. PQSI was noted for severity of sleep disorder. TBUT and Schimers’s, showed moderate and severe dry eye in 48.5% and 21.5% patients respectively and OSDI showed severe dry eye in 49% females. The mean PQSI was also increased with severity of dry eye.The results were statistically significant. We found significant association of DED in menopausal females and their sleep quality also deteriorated. Alteration of hormones plays an important role in DED in the above age group and remains unrecognized. Thus, it is important for all healthcare personals to understand DED to recognize, treat, and seek ophthalmologic intervention where applicable.
