Abstract

Aim-To describe clinical features, management, and outcomes of strabismus in patients post scleral buckle.Methods-14patients with strabismus post scleral buckle were analyzed.9 had horizontal deviation,1vertical and 4had combined strabismus.A successful “motor”outcome was defined as horizontal deviation<10Δ and vertical deviation<4Δ;successful “sensory”outcome was no diplopia in the primary position.Results-10 patients underwent strabismus surgery,2 were treated with botulinum toxin,2 were managed with prisms.The causes noted were fat adherence syndrome, fusion disruption and muscle trauma. The surgical cases needed modifications such as hangback recession, transposition and adjustable suture. Removal of part or complete scleral buckle was done in 3 patients. Conclusion- Scleral buckle removal in select patients may improve ocular alignment following strabismus surgery. conservative/surgical decision in management of strabismus post buckle depends on underlying pathophysiology.
