Abstract
Purpose: To present the surgical outcome of Partial Modified Knapps procedure in a case of Congenital 3rd nerve palsy.
Inferior rectus recession, Knapps procedure with partial tendon transposition are done in the management of Monocular Elevation Deficit (MED).
Methods: In this case, we report the experience of a 11 year old girl child who presented to the paediatric ophthalmology OPD with unilateral congenital pupil sparing third cranial nerve palsy with ptosis and pseudoptosis, absent elevation ,exodeviation and widening of palpebral fissure on attempted adduction in LE with chin and brow elevation which was managed by Inferior rectus recession followed by Partial Modified Knapps surgery.
Result: Patient has achieved orthotropia with significant improvement in elevation and correction of compensatory head posture .
Conclusion: Patient has shown optimal functional outcome following the surgical procedure as tailored to the patient’s magnitude of deviation and deficit.
