Abstract
A hospital based prospective study was done in a tertiary care hospital in north-east part of India in one year duration. The purpose was to study the common etiological conditions of low vision, the demographic pattern of low vision, different suitable low vision aids advised and their acceptance rate, the improvement in ‘quality of life’ after visual rehabilitation. Patients with BCVA < 6/18 in better eye were considered as having low vision. 80 such low vision patients were thoroughly evaluated and results were statistically analysed w.r.t. demographic patterns, etiology etc. ARMD (23%) was found to be the most common cause of low vision, followed by amblyopia. BCVA for distant and near vison was noted for each patient. Patients were counselled for different types of low vision aids based on needs. The different purposes of using low vision aids by patients and improvement of quality of life of after use have been assessed by using questionnaire, in follow up visits.
