Abstract
We report the case of a 68-year-old male presented with diminution of vision in his left eye for last 2 years. He underwent LE cataract surgery elsewhere long before. Slit lamp examination showed aphakic left eye. Fundus examination showed multi-piece IOL in vitreous cavity with attached retina with lattices and CRA patches. Snellen VA was 1/60 in LE. Conjunctival peritomy and SFIOL marking was done. Scleral flap was made at 3 & 9 o’clock hours at 3 mm from limbus. We performed 25G pars plana vitrectomy and triamcinolone assisted PVD was induced and residual peripheral vitrectomy completed. Dropped IOL was lifted and fixed as scleral-fixated intraocular lens (SFIOL) with help of SFIOL forceps and maxgrip forceps. 360-degree prophylactic endolaser was performed. Post-operatively at 1month, SFIOL was centered and BCVA was improved to 6/18 in LE.
SFIOL implantation is valuable for the management of aphakia in the absence of capsular support.
