Abstract
We report the case of a 35-year-old female presented with diminution of vision in her right eye. Fundus examination showed a large giant retinal tear (GRT) with inverted flap with temporal retinal detachment with macula-on. The BCVA was logMAR 0.10. We performed 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy and with the help of perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL), GRT flap was unfolded and residual anterior flap was cut to better attach the retina. After doing 360-degree endolaser, PFCL- silicone oil exchange was performed. We prescribed face down positioning in the post-operative period. Post-operatively at 1 week, the retina was completely attached and BCVA was logMAR 0.20.
Primary microincision vitrectomy using wide-angle viewing system with intraoperative PFCL assistant and intraocular silicone oil tamponade appears to be safe and feasible for managing GRT with retinal detachment.
