Abstract
Objective: To compare tear film changes in terms of dryness of eyes after phacoemulsification and Manual (SICS). Materials and Methods:200 patients were chosen for a prospective study.Inclusion criteria was patients who had cataract without dry eye symptoms. Patients with complicated and traumatic cataract, preoperative dry eyes,Complicated surgery and prolonged surgeries were excluded. Patients were tested for different parameters such as tear meniscus height,TBUT, Schirmer test 1, and Rose Bengal staining. Eyes were tested 1 day before and on post operative day 1, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery.The association between categorical variables was analyzed using the Chi‐square test. The paired t‐test was used to compare the mean of quantitative variables. Results:There was no significant difference between the two groups at the end of 3 months.Conclusion: The changes at the end of three months had no significant difference with reference to the kind of surgery performed.
