Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of two MIGS – the device-based iStent, and the non-device-based Bent Ab interno Needle Goniectomy (BANG). The study was a prospective, comparative study done over 1 year. 14 and 29 patients of mild to moderate, primary open-angle glaucomas were included in the iStent and BANG group, respectively. Patients with angle closure and secondary glaucoma were excluded. The pre-operative and post-operative IOP, number of anti-glaucoma medications needed and post-op complications were compared. The iStent and BANG group showed a mean post-op IOP of 15.07 (±4.31) and 16.18 (±6.72) mm Hg, a mean IOP reduction of 1.36 (±0.72) and 1.10 (±1) mm Hg and a mean reduction of AGM of 0.86 (±0.28) and 0.57 (±0.13), respectively. Complete success, Qualified success and Failure rates were 57%, 36% and 7% for iStent group, & 68%, 18% and 14% for BANG group. Total success was thus higher in the iStent group, thereby cementing its better efficacy.
