Abstract
The recent role of silicone oil(SO) in endophthalmitis owing to its high surface tension which prevents migration of organisms, lasting tamponade to stabilize retina was highlighted. This study aims to show the visual outcomes in patients with postsurgical-endophthalmitis who was managed with pars plana vitrectomy with SO infusion.Patients presenting to retinaOPD with signs of endophthalmitis2-3 weeks after cataract surgery were included in the study.Only pseudophakic patients were included in the study.Every patient was given Intravitreal antibiotics as a first line of treatment. One week later pars plana vitrectomy was done with SO infusion and vitreous tap was sent to microbiological examination.Patients were followed up at POD -1,1 week,3 weeks,6 weeks and 3 months later. The patients had initial vision of HM/PL+.The final best corrected visual acuity after 3 months followup was 6/12,6/9,6/9p,6/12p,6/36. The patients showed promising vision and complete resolution of symptoms.
