Abstract
Study design: Prospective observational study in 15 cases of macular hole; between May 2023 and March 2024 at a tertiary eye care center of Coastal Odisha. Purpose: To evaluate the epidemiological features and clinical profile of macular hole. Methods: Patients examined thoroughly. Anterior segment was examined. Funduscopy & OCT was done in all patients. All clinical data collected and statistically examined. Results: Mean age (n = 15) was 58.9 ± 13.2 and male/female ratio of 2.75:1. Bilateral in 3 cases (20%). 1 patient (6.7%) had stage 1, 5 (33.3%) had stage 2, 3 (20%) had stage 3 and 6 (40%) had stage 4 disease. Visual acuity was ranging from 6/18 to 6/60. All patients were referred for retina consultation and asked for follow up at 1 month. At 1 month follow up, no significant visual improvement occurred in patients who didn’t undergone surgery. Conclusion: Stage 4 disease is common at presentation in our setup. No significant improvement in vision noticed after1 month follow up.
