Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Cross sectional study
PURPOSE: To assess the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR) & platelet to lymphocyte ratio(PLR) in patients with high myopia(HM) & compare with non-high myopic(NHM).
METHOD:60 age and sex-matched participants were taken, including 30 participants of age < 50 years each in HM(myopia of ≥ -6D & axial length ≥ 26mm) and NHM (myopia of < -6D) groups. Ocular examinations and blood tests were performed. The NLR and PLR values were calculated from complete blood counts.
RESULTS:The mean ages of 24.68 and 24.10 years respectively. The AL of group A was longer than group B(28.57 ±2.30 & 23.46 ±0.90 mm). AL was significantly correlated with NLR. Study revealed that NLR& PLR were significantly higher in the HM group than in NHM group.
CONCLUSION:The NLR & PLR, which are indicators of systemic inflammatory properties, were significantly elevated in the HM group, suggesting that myopia development may be associated with systemic inflammation.
