Abstract

Study Design: Cross sectional
Purpose:Comparison of QoL assessment using the GQL-15 where patients rate their actual status for each of the 4 domains of visual disability; with that of the relative importance of each domain.
Methods:A pilot study of 37 patients with moderate to severe glaucoma were administered the GQL-15 questionnaire. The overall QoL score was obtained and the measures so obtained, divided by 5, taken as real-world measure of personalised QoL of the patient. Personalised QoL was compared to standard GQL-15 score.
Results: Patients reported highest visual impairment with walking on uneven ground, seeing at night and reading newspapers. Patients gave the highest weightage to recognizing faces & finding dropped objects. Highest score was bagged by seeing at night & adjusting to dim lights, on analysis of the weighted GQL scores.
Conclusion:Individualising QoL measures is necessary for better understanding of the patients’ perception of their visual disability.
