Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between anterior segment (AS) optical coherence tomography (OCT) and Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) in cases of congenital corneal opacity (CCO).
Design: This study employs a comparative consecutive case series design.
Method: The study included children with unilateral or bilateral CCO who had undergone examination under anesthesia (EUA) and AS-OCT imaging within the previous year.
Results: Twenty-two eyes of 15 patients were included. The mean central corneal thickness (CCT) measured was 793±21.5 microns with UBM and 670±23 microns with AS-OCT. AS-OCT closely correlated with UBM findings in 20 of 22 eyes (90.9%).
Conclusion: AS-OCT proves to be a rapid and non-invasive diagnostic tool for opaque corneas. It is an informative tool in prognostication and preoperative surgical planning even before a UBM. In most cases, AS-OCT and UBM correlate well, but pachymetric values are not interchangeable.
