Abstract
Study design: Cross sectional study
Purpose: To determine the corneal endothelial cell density and morphology in DM type 2, and Angle Closure Glaucoma
Method: This study was carried out to determine the corneal endothelial cell density and morphology in 96 eyes of patients with DM and angle closure glaucoma, with an average age of 45-80 yrs. The entire study population included was subjected to ocular examination with specular microscopy for endothelial cell morphology study under variables like Cell area (μm2), CCT, Cell density, Coefficient of Variation , % of Hexagonal cells.
Result: There is a significant increase in CCT and coefficient of variation and decrease in the endothelial cell density and hexagonality parameters in DM as compared to angle closure glaucoma.
Conclusion: we thus recommend that it is important to take optimal measures to protect the corneal endothelium in all Diabetes mellitus, and Angle closure glaucoma patients during any subsequent intraocular surgery.
