Abstract
Purpose : To determine the prevalence of dry eye disease in newly diagnosed untreated depression patients. 100 patients of newly diagnosed depression without any prior medication from age 18-70 yrs were included in the study. All patients diagnosed and classified as mild, moderate, severe depression on the basis of ICD 10 Classification. On the same day, All patients undergo a complete ocular examination like visual acuity, IOP, S/L, fundus, dry eye tests like TBUT, TFM height, ocular surface staining with fluorescein, schirmer's test, Oxford score. Data was analysed using SPSS software All differences a/w chance probability of ≤0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Among 100 studied population,42% had dry eye,58% did not have dry eye. The prevalence of dry eye disease is 42%.Among 45 studied male patients, 12 (26.6%) had dry eye disease, whereas in 55 studied female patients 34 (61.81) had dry eye disease which is statically significant (p value 0.029.).
