Abstract
Case-Control Study; To find out the correlation of levels of serum HRBP-4 with DR; 90 subjects suffering from Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus were taken. Diabetic Retinopathy was assessed using Indirect Ophthalmoscopy. 45 Cases (DR), 45 Controls (without DR) were selected. 5ml blood was drawn in a plain vial and centrifuged. The serum was stored in aliquots at -20ºC until assayed. The Human Retinol Binding Protein 4 was estimated using RBP-4 GENLISA ELISA kit. The latest version of GraphPad Prism software was used for statistical analysis. The means of serum HRBP-4 between the groups (cases and controls) were compared using an unpaired t-test. The p-value was 0.0002, implying a strong statistically significant difference between the groups. The value of the 95% confidence interval was 1088 to 3337; serum HRBP-4 showed a positive correlation with DR.
