Abstract
Study Design: A pilot study conducted on patients attending our OPD with clinical diagnosis of cataract. Hospital based Cross sectional study. n= 38
Purpose: To study the incidence of cystoid macular edema in uneventful cases of small incision cataract surgery
Method: Pre- Operative OCT for macular thickness compared with post- operative macular thickness at 1st, 2nd, 4th week and 3months after and uneventful SICS surgery.
Result: The preoperative mean macular thickness noted in the 25 patients who underwent SICS was 160.68μ ± 10.78
1st wk: 171.2 μ ± 10.63, 2nd wk 170.48 μ ± 11.2, 4th wk 167.4 μ ± 15.02, 3 mth 165.64 ± 15.01
Conclusion: Subclinical macular oedema was noted at the first, second and fourth week reviews in patients who underwent cataract surgery. The peak subclinical macular edema was noted at the first week review. At the third month review, the macular edema had reduced. OCT showed macular edema without altering the architecture of the macular.
