Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the awareness and knowledge of POAG among patients aged more than 40 years at tertiary care center.
Methods:The cross-sectional study included patients with diagnosed POAG, using a well-structured questionnaire which assessed awareness and knowledge. Demographic data was also collected. Results:Of the 973 participants, 67.6% were males and 32.4% were females. The age distribution ranged from 41 to 80 years, with 36.1% of participants in the 61-70 age group. Overall awareness and knowledge were categorized as fair, with most patients scoring between 50% and 75% on the questionnaire. No significant association was found between age or gender and awareness or knowledge.However, education status showed a statistically significant correlation with both awareness and knowledge (p-value < 0.05). Conclusion: Education status significantly impacts awareness and knowledge of glaucoma, suggesting the need for targeted educational interventions.
