Abstract

Aim : To assess the effectiveness of topical (0.03%) Tacrolimus eye ointment in treating refractory allergic conjunctivitis
Materials:
Study Design :Prospective observational study

Study Area :Tertiary care centre at Southern Assam

Study Population :Refractory simple allergic conjunctivitis

Study Period :6 months

Sample Size :70

Methods: Basic allergic conjunctivitis cases were identified and monitored, with subjective and objective findings. Previous ocular medication stopped at the time of enrolment, the affected eyes conjunctival sacs were treated twice a day for 4 weeks with (0.03%) tacrolimus ointment, followed by a 2 weeks washout period

Results :By the end of 1st week there was a decrease in the symptoms of basic allergic conjunctivitis. Every case was healed by the end of the 4th week, no patient experienced any recurrences until 7th week.

Conclusion :Tacrolimus eye ointment greatly minimises recurrences, it's a great option to anti-allergic and steroid eye drops
