Abstract
Radiotherapy aims at killing the cancer cells by use of radiation in form of high- energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams or protons which makes small breaks in the DNA of cancer cells and makes them incapable of further growth and division, ultimately leading to cell death.
In field of ocular oncology, radiotherapy has emerged to be great treatment modality for various tumors of eyelids, conjunctiva, iris, choroid, retina, optic nerve, orbit and periorbital structures.
In this video we would like to cover all aspects of radiotherapy related to ophthalmology, including basics of radiotherapy, its evolution in field of ocular oncology, indications, different modalities of radiation used, dosimetry, endpoint of a therapy, possible ocular and systemic complications and its management, contraindications and current radiotherapy protocols in various ocular tumors.
